From the Aether
Courtenay Place Park light boxes
Wellington
7 April - 31 July 2016

Curated by Caroline McQuarrie

Featuring work by:
Jonathan Kay
 Shaun Matthews
 Bonny Stewart-MacDonald

Courtenay Place Park light box exhibition From the Aether showcased Wellington artists whose interest in amateur science was brought together into a ‘cabinet of curiosities’. From the Aether featured Jonathan Kay, Shaun Matthews and Bonny Stewart-MacDonald whose artwork explores the physical world through easily accessible science. Jonathan Kay has swept Courtenay Place to collect the meteor dust that falls around us every day, which he has then photographed through a microscope. Shaun Matthews’ work uses chromatography to separate the different shades of chlorophyll within native plants, exploring the way these plants respond to light. Bonny Stewart-MacDonald engages a collection of nineteenth century slides which make the microscopic huge and shrink the huge down to microscopic.
